Importance of Giving
There are two ways to give, one is to give with a cheerful heart and the other is to give grudgingly. The blessing lies in giving cheerfully.
There is a Universal law and a Spiritual law that agrees with this; whatsoever you sow, that will you reap. If we give it shall be given unto us in good measures, pressed down, shaken together and running over shall men give into our bosom. This is giving with a cheerful heart.
Giving also makes us feel good if we are doing it with a cheerful heart. It is not that we want others to show their appreciation to us when we give because we do not expect anything in return from them. God is our source He will reward us.
Giving is the nature of God. He so loved the World that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but shall have everlasting life. He sent the Holy Spirit to us to live within us. He has given His Angels charge over us to protect and to deliver us. The Bible says that every good gift comes above. God gives and we are in His likeness so our nature should also be that of a giver.
The word of God also said that it is better to give than to receive. It is a blessing that we have something to give and when we do, we will get more in return.
There is also giving grudgingly. This is giving when we really do not want to, this type of giving have no return blessing for us. The Lord wants us to be a cheerful giver like Him and if not we might as well not give at all. He cheerfully gave His Son knowing that He could be crucified but He saw the fruit of it, He saw His return, which is many more Sons and daughters. What He gave was the same that returned to Him only multiplied in numbers. So the things that we give, the same will be returned to us multiplied.
Giving is not just about giving money. We can give our time or our possessions. We could help someone else in great or small things. The size does not matter, what matter is that we are giving. We can give counsel to someone, we can listen to him, we can visit him, we can play with him, laugh or sing with him all of this is giving. All of these things are pleasing to the Lord.
Believe it or not but when we accept something from someone, it is also giving. The reason is because when someone wants to give us something and we accept it (whether we want it or not) we are opening a door for them to be blessed of God. We would have given them a door. On the contrary, if we do not accept what is offered, then we are closing the door upon their blessing from God. Therefore, if anyone wants to give us something we should take it as to not hinder his or her blessing.
Sometime we may not want to accept what a Person offers because we may already have it so we would decline it but this is a form of pride. We have but the other Person has not (the blessing that is coming to them because of their giving). Pride is selfish and does not want anyone to have anything. Now this truth is sealed by the Devil but it is true.
What should we do if someone offers us something that we already have? Be honest with them and tell them that we have it already but ask them if it would be OK with them if we give it to someone else. By doing it like that, we would not get what we do not need and we would not have cut off their blessing.
Nothing can enter into a closed fist but when we open our hand and give, while it is still open, God would have prepared a blessing for us.
